Yaupon is the only caffeinated plant native to north america. It’s related to yerba maté but for thousands of years it’s been brewed as a roasted dark beverage, often with cacao. It was popular among the First people and settlers until the tea and coffee companies arrived and forced it out of the market.

Diaspora has worked with the farmers leading yaupon’s resurgance to develop yaupon espresso, now selling at the SLU Saturday market. If you like espresso drinks, come try your favorite order made with yaupon. Yes, it has crema.

Or, try one of our popular seasonal specials made with local botanicals at the Market or during our open hours wednesdays and thursdays.
